Live-in Contract Position
Position begins October/November 2026
St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Cathedral is currently seeking a Custodian to join our team. This is a live-in position that includes janitorial, maintenance, and on-call responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, appearance, safety, and basic upkeep of the church and banquet hall facilities, including:
Sweep, vacuum, and mop floors and other surfaces
Clean and sanitize restrooms
Empty garbage and recycling
Clear snow and apply salt to walkways during the winter
Cut grass and maintain gardens and shrubs during the spring and summer
Perform minor repairs and basic maintenance as needed
Assist with the setup and takedown of tables and chairs for events, as required
Follow an on-call schedule to ensure the church and banquet hall are clean, safe, and ready before and after events
Follow an on-call schedule to open and secure the church and banquet hall for parishioners, guests, and hall renters
Skills and Qualifications
Ability to operate industrial cleaning equipment
Ability to operate outdoor maintenance equipment, such as lawn mowers and other groundskeeping equipment
Ability to perform minor repairs and basic maintenance
Ability to lift in excess of 50 lbs
Knowledge and understanding of health and safety practices and regulations
Ability to monitor and maintain an inventory of cleaning and maintenance supplies
Ability to work independently, use good judgment, and problem-solve
Ability to communicate effectively in both Serbian and English
Additional Requirements
Must be of Serbian Orthodox faith and willing to become a member of St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Cathedral
Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Police Screening
Must provide references upon request
Candidate is required to reside on the premises
Previous Experience
Any experience that shows the candidate is hard-working, attentive to detail, and conscientious of health and safety regulations. Experience that demonstrates good communication skills and customer service is also an asset. Must be fluent in Serbian and knowledgeable of the Orthodox faith.
Position Details
Compensation: Competitive monthly salary.
Housing: A four-bedroom townhouse located on church premises is provided as part of the compensation package. The unit has a private entrance. Housing is provided as a taxable benefit.
Utilities: Gas, hydro, and internet are not included and are the responsibility of the successful candidate.
Hours: Flexible hours that vary from week to week based on cleaning, maintenance, and church and hall events. The position averages approximately 25 hours per week over time, but the number of hours may be significantly higher or lower in any given week.
