Circle of Sisters St. Nicholas Queen Mary
In 2025, our two women’s auxiliary groups united under one banner with a common purpose.
They continue to follow in the footsteps of the hard-working and selfless women who preceded them in the Circle of Sisters Queen Mary (est. 1934) and Circle of Sisters St. Nicholas (est. 1967). They remain committed to work for the benefit and progress of the Holy Church, our church community, all the while supporting the local community and Serbs in need, both near and afar.
The Sisters have been an integral part of every church activity. They work tirelessly in the kitchen for banquets, memorial meals, and parish group Slavas, preparing and serving food. They also help meet the current needs of our parish community through donations. Our beautiful cathedral has benefitted immensely from their generosity. For example, we thank the Sisters for offsetting the costs of our cathedral’s frescoes and land purchases, for the five brass chandeliers that hang above the nave, and the stained-glass windows.
During times of adversity, the Sisters have supported charities in the former Yugoslavia, including war orphans in Serbia, HRH Princess Katherine’s Lifeline Foundation, and Czar Lazar’s humanitarian fund for flood relief. Locally, the Sisters have donated to Hamilton charities, amongst them Mission Services, women’s shelters, the Red Cross, and the Canadian Cancer Society.
The Sisters have also sought opportunities to bring people together in celebration by hosting such events as the spring Ladies Afternoon Tea. During the holiday season, to bring joy to those who may feel otherwise lonely or forgotten, the Sisters have started a tradition of visiting our elderly members in nursing homes.
Our Sisters pledge to honour the legacy of the Founding Sisters and dedicate their time, love and effort to support our Church, strengthen our parish community and help others. The Sisters warmly welcome new members. They invite inquiries from those who wish to join, grow in faith and share in the spirit of unity. Contact President Sonja Hajdu 905-923-7091.
